‍Eligibility: Open to high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors attending public, private, parochial, charter, or home schools in the greater Washington area. A strong interest in literature, museums, libraries, history, drama, humanities, or Shakespeare is expected, but no prior experience with Shakespeare or performance is required — curiosity is the only prerequisite.

‍Program Dates: January through May 2027; approximately three sessions per month (two Tuesday afterschool sessions and one Saturday session), 15 sessions total

Overview

Fellows spend five months exploring Shakespeare's Hamlet through scholarship, research, and performance, working directly with scholars, theater artists, and librarians while gaining hands-on access to the Folger's rare collection. Each fellow develops an original project connecting Hamlet to a contemporary question of their choosing, and receives a $1,000 stipend upon completing the program.
