Internship Title: Summer Internship Program (SIP)

‍Eligibility: Only high school SENIORS are eligible — you must be enrolled at least half-time as a senior in high school at the time you apply, turn 18 by the start of the summer, and have already graduated high school before the internship begins. You must also be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident. (Underclassmen and students who won't have graduated by the internship start date are not eligible)

‍Application Deadline: Applications open in early December and close February 18

‍Program Dates: 6 to 8 weeks over the summer

Overview

SIP places students in NIH's own labs on its Bethesda campus for hands-on biomedical and behavioral research, paired with a leading NIH scientist as a mentor. Interns take part in professional development throughout the summer, including career workshops and a poster presentation of their research.

Because only graduating seniors (18 by the start of the program) can apply, this is best suited to current high school seniors planning to start the internship right after graduation.
