Overview
The Work Study Student Program at the Library of Congress provides local high school students with paid work experience while they continue their education. The program combines classroom learning with practical, on-the-job training in a professional government environment. Interns gain exposure to careers in public service while developing workplace skills and exploring potential career paths.
Students work part-time during the school year and may have the opportunity to work full-time during school breaks. Positions are available in multiple offices within the Library of Congress, where interns assist staff with administrative tasks, office operations, and special projects.
The program is designed to support career development by giving students meaningful workplace experience, supervision from professionals, and opportunities to learn about how the federal government operates. Participants earn a federal hourly salary while building skills in communication, organization, and professional responsibility.
